Buttercream cakes are our most popular choice
They come in a variety of sizes with the smallest being a 4 inch, 2 layer cake that slices into 6 servings. For large gatherings there are larger sizes and the option of tiers to make sure you have enough cake for everyone!
When it comes to decorating your buttercream cake the options really are endless but I've listed a selection of my cakes below to give you an idea of what is possible.
We specialise in buttercream cakes with fondant modelling
We are the only cake supplier in Skegness that combines the modern look of a buttercream cake with the skill of hand modelled fondant decorations
In the pictures above you can see a selection of our cakes that are a buttercream base with fondant decorations. Hand modelled fondant work is a skill that our cake designer Lianne has worked on for 9 years. Fondant cakes are seen as old fashioned and buttercream cakes have become much more popular over the years but we think there is still space for fondant work in cake design and we combine the two to create our signature cakes.
The cakes above have varying amounts of fondant work, some quite simple and others much more intricate. All fondant work is priced on a case by case basis, taking into consideration the complexity and time it would take to create.
Although the combination of buttercream and fondant is what we specialise in we can of course create many types of buttercream cake and you can find examples below.
The above cakes show examples of buttercream cakes with added chocolate or sweets. As you can see from these example you can make the cake flavours match in with the toppings but you can also be a little more creative and add some colour. So in the red cake for example, the sweets and chocolates chosen match in with the football theme.
Next up we have some cakes that include dried stems, fresh flowers, or a combination of both. Colour options for this style of cake are endless and you can of course also add toppers, fondant decorations, sweets or chocolates.
Toppers! These are the easiest way to add a theme and/or message to your cake.
Some of the cakes above have just simple toppers added, such as the boy or girl cake and the pink 70th birthday cake, and all of the decorations on these two cakes would be included in the base case price with the toppers themselves being the only additional cost. Of course the prices for these toppers still vary. The happy 70th birthday topper is a simple one layer card topper which would cost just a few pounds but the Edith is 5 topper was custom and made from wood and acrylic which means it was more expensive.
Toppers alone can easily theme a cake, the Minecraft cake and the Only fools and horses cake are examples of this, but you can also add to your toppers. Both the Super hero cake and the Megamind cake have extra fondant decorations on them to really take them to the next level.
When it comes to toppers prices can vary quite a lot. The Minecraft cake is an example of a lower cost topper pack, it's one dimensional and has minimal detail. Whereas the super hero topper was custom made and has multiple layers and details.
The more niche your theme the more likely that you will need something custom made, Minecraft is a very popular theme which means there are lots of options available and you might be able to pick something cheaper whereas the Megamind theme was very niche and custom made was the only option available. Just keep this in mind when picking your theme and the budget you want to stick to.
Edible printed images are another way to add a theme to your cake. These can be attached directly to your cake or applied to a layer of fondant and then cut out and added to the cake. All of the cakes above include edible printed images.
Figures, models or toys can look amazing added to cakes. They can be added on there own or in combination with other decorations like some of the cakes above. The Three-Rex cake for example has dried stems alongside the dinosaur figures or the Golf cake also has card toppers alongside the golf buggy model.
I can use toys or figures that you already own and place these on your cakes which can then save you some money but they do have to be delivered to me ahead of time and they also have to be able to go in water so that they can be sterilised (so nothing soft/electrial etc).
I can also source new toys/figures for you. I particularly like this option for Children's cakes as it means they can keep the toy after.
